About
Goldwind Australia’s Coppabella Wind Farm will consist of up to 75 wind turbines, which can generate 270MW of power - sufficient to supply approximately 159,000 homes annually.
Lumea will facilitate the grid connection for the Coppabella Wind Farm, which includes the construction of:
- 330kV switch bay, containing a 132kV transformer bay, at Yass substation
- A static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) within the Yass substation
- 7km of 132kV Transmission Line from the wind farm to existing line 99M
Lumea is currently working to initiate detailed design to cover works to address REF expiry constraint and preservation of the REF. This will include preparation for site mobilisation and physical commencement of works.
Rebuild of Transmission Line 99M
The wind farm will connect into Transgrid’s Transmission Line 99M, which will require upgrades to its line rating to accommodate the proposed generation of the wind farm. Transmission Line 99M currently operates as a 73 km, 132 kV single circuit connection between the Yass 330 kV substation and the Murrumburrah 132 kV substation in the Southern Tablelands region.
Transgrid is proposing the reconstruction of approximately 39 km of Line 99M, from Structure 143 at Coppabella Wind Farm to the Yass substation, as a double circuit line. The project will involve the installation of new 40-meter high steel or concrete pole transmission structures, which will be up to 20 meters taller than the existing wooden poles. Additionally, the line upgrade will include the construction of a new switch bay and the necessary electrical and communications connections at the Yass substation.
