Following one of the first installations in Australia, Lumea is now offering spectrum sharing using its ‘fibre in the sky’ network to deliver lower cost, high speed and reliable data services and solutions for businesses, governments and industries.
Executive General Manager Craig Stallan said: “Lumea Spectrum revolutionises telco connectivity by maximising network efficiency, improving coverage, and reducing deployment and infrastructure costs for our government, enterprise, and wholesale customers.
“It ensures our telecommunications customers experience faster, more reliable data connections, with greater flexibility managing their bandwidth requirements over the leased spectrum.
“Spectrum sharing provides customers with the benefits of dark fibre without the high costs, as well as flexibility in their choice of transponder technology.”
Lumea owns and operates a ‘fibre in the sky’ optical ground wire (OPGW) network across NSW and the ACT, with connectivity through partner providers in Queensland and Victoria, connecting customers to a wide range of data services and providing true network diversity and reliability.
Lumea Spectrum provides high-speed regional and inter-capital connectivity for customers, including those colocating in data centres. It enables complete control over a virtual segment of a fibre using Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology, offering speeds exceeding 400Gbps.
“Essentially our customers use their own telecommunications equipment which is located in data centres to securely access our OPGW network capacity,” Mr Stallan said.
“By leveraging Lumea’s existing fibre assets, customers can immediately access fibre at a lower incremental investment, with real time control and monitoring.”
Lumea has successfully installed an inter-capital service between Sydney and Melbourne for Titan Telecoms. The Queensland-based telco has secured Spectrum allowing it to provide 400Gbps-native Wavelength Services from its transponders and enabling high-bandwidth telecommunications services between 23 data centres along Australia’s eastern coast. Lumea is utilising Ciena’s optical technology to support this network.
“Lumea is really proud to have successfully tested and installed Spectrum for Titan Telecoms,” Mr Stallan said.
“We are excited to provide customers like Titan Telecoms with high-speed, cost effective and reliable telecommunications solutions that help to deliver their business outcomes.”
Titan Telecoms Chief Technology Officer Nic Tippelt said: “Titan Telecoms is proud to be Lumea’s strategic partner, enabling high-capacity, low-latency transmission across Lumea's extensive telecommunications assets. By leveraging Adtran TeraFlex™ hyperscale transponders, Titan Telecoms is ready to meet the growing capacity demands of networks across Australia.
“Underpinned by Lumea Spectrum, the Titan Telecoms backbone enables customers to deploy diverse, low-latency services with speeds exceeding 400Gbps between Sydney and Melbourne, further enhancing Titan Telecoms’ distinctive offerings across Australia.”
Ciena Regional Managing Director, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands Ivan Polizzi said: “We congratulate Lumea on this exciting milestone to offer its customers new service alternatives to market. With optical innovation from Ciena, Lumea can mix and match building blocks with ease and flexibility to create purpose-built network solutions such as Lumea Spectrum for its customers.”
